Musculoskeletal Therapy

Musculoskeletal therapy can be catagorised as the modality in therapy practices that bridges the gap between remedial massage and physiotherapy.
While some of our methods are on par with those used in physiotherapy and their rehabilitation protocols our main methodology is to maintain more of a hands on approach to the treatment regime of each individual client during their session.
So as a Musculoskeletal practitioner we are looking to:

  • increase your mobility,
  • decrease your pain if not resolve it,
  • educate you on how to maintain a level of functionality that your body allows you to have, by either pain management or prevention of repeat injury when we are able to locate the source of the problem.

We accomplish this for you with a variety of methods and techniques that in the right combination will cause a positive reaction from your body allowing you to achieve that which you were not able to do prior to seeing an MST Practitioner, due to the pain or restriction within your Musculoskeletal system.

The range of techniques that we utilize is large so I will only mention a few to give you an idea of what you could expect during a treatment session with a Musculoskeletal paractitioner.

Some Techniques are:

  • Massage of various types (depends mainly on experience and background education of massage styles, included are things like Lymphatic Drainage Massage (LDM))
  • Muscle Testing, Strength and Pattern firing
  • Myo Fascial Release Therapy (MFR)
  • Trigger Point Therapy (TrP Therapy)
  • Cupping
  • Neuro Muscular Techniques (NMT), - PNF, - MET, - RI, - ECCC, etc.
  • Positional Release Technique (PRT)
  • Manual Dry Needling (MDN)
  • Electro Stimulus Dry Needling, (ESDN)
  • Neural Stretching/Mobilization
  • Joint Mobilisation

As you can see there are a range of techniques that we can utilize for the benefit of the client.
All Musculoskeletal Practitioners are educated in a Bachelor of Health Science, and it is from there that they expand their education and experiences as they grow in the field, seeing the variety of clients that seek them for treatment. From this we all become individual in our approach, methodology and application to gain the required outcome stipulated by the client.

What do we do and why should you see us as apposed to any other profession?

Well the answer for this comes back to personal choice, due to rapport with the practitioner of any modality you choose to gain a resolution to your issue of body dysfunction. As a MST Practitioner we are always striving to get to the source of the dysfunction.
By doing that we can to resolve the problems and give you back your life as it was before the pain and loss of movement, this also gives you a better disposition on life, and we all need to be happy in life. This is why we take the holistic approach to treatment of our clients. Educating our clients of what is happening with their body and how it can be corrected and maintained.

How does it work and what is it relying on to gain a desired positive outcome?

Well the body is a very complicated piece of machinery. Consisting of 11 systems that all work together to try to create a harmonious coexistence, a state called homeostasis. Though homeostasis is a balance of the systems to achieve an outcome of harmony, where the body can move and function without pain or detriment to the body as a whole, It has a scope of lee-way before the body gets to the point where this coping mechanism just has no more ability to adjust its systems in order to keep functioning at the same level the person requires.
This is where we then notice the loss of movement or the pain stopping us from moving.

To gain the outcome of regained pain free movement, the MST Practitioner will complete the session and at the end if it is applicable to keep the momentum of the treatment regime going, they will advise the person of any activities (stretches, exercises) to be completed by them before the next treatment. To ensure that the progression of the treatment plan is not interrupted, It is strongly advised that the person is to complete these. Otherwise they are increasing the time it takes to achieve the outcome that they are wanting.
